Thai Cooking Class

CCOur Thai cooking class was a rewarding cultural experience. We were picked up at our hotel by our instructor, driven to a local market where the fresh produce for our class was purchased, and taken to our open air classroom where instruction began. It was almost a private session, with one other couple attending.

Our instructor Richie spoke fairly good English and was a lot of fun. It was obvious he had the system perfected because our schedule was packed and it ran like clockwork. Not a moment was spared, but we never felt rushed. We each had our own personal work space, stove and cooking equipment, and ongoing hands-on experience.

The selections were typical northern Thailand cuisine. Between the two of us, we made two different soups; two types of curry; fried noodles; pad thai; chicken with cashews; and stir fry vegetables. As a class, we made made curry paste; papaya salad; spring rolls with dipping sauce; jasmine rice; sticky rice with mango; and vegetable garnishes.

The flavors were amazing and the class was interesting and fun. We were each presented with a certificate of completion and we got to keep our cookbooks. Very nice!
